Shane Warne struck consecutive sixes off former team-mate Andrew Symonds to steer his Rajasthan Royals team to a three-wicket win over Deccan Chargers with a ball to spare.
Rajasthan, replying to the home team's 214-5 after Symonds' magnificent innings of 117 not out off 53 balls, reached 217-7 as Warne helped them score the 17 runs they needed off the final over.
The tournament favourites, the Chargers, have now lost their first three games of the Indian Premier League, while the least-fancied team, the Royals, have now won two out of three.
It was surprising that Chargers skipper VVS Laxman gave Symonds the final over after he had conceded 30 off one over to Virender Sehwag on Tuesday. His off-spinners were of Warne's liking as he hit a four and two sixes to win the game and be mobbed by his team-mates.
South Africa captain Graeme Smith also had a good match, striking 71 off 45 balls in his first taste of the IPL, and Yusuf Pathan made 61 off just 26 balls, with four fours and six sixes.
Earlier, Australian power-hitter Symonds registered his first century of the IPL by clubbing leg-spinner Warne over his head for six, a blow that made the second tier of the stand.
The Chargers' other star batsmen Adam Gilchrist, Shahid Afridi and Laxman failed to make an impact. Rohit Sharma again impressed with 36 off 30 deliveries and combining in a stand of 11 with Symonds.
Queenslander Symonds, sportingly applauded by Warne on reaching three figures, plundered 11 fours and seven sixes in his entertaining innings, in which he was dropped on 65 by Pathan at point.
